Car Seat Information

Your baby will need a car seat from the very beginning

After a newborn is released from the hospital, staff of the facility are required by law to fasten the child into the seat and put it in the car. In this case the car seat has to at least be able to fit a newborn or has a head rest they can use. So when choosing a car seat remember to look up what your states laws are.

Your baby may need a car seat on an airplane

If you're considering traveling on an airplane with your child, remember that you can only use FAA approved car seats. However most airlines allow children less then one years old to sit in an adult's lap. FAA approved car seat's label should read, "This restraint certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft." They must also be no wider than 16 inches to fit into a standard coach seat. Of course make sure it is big enough to hold your child. The shoulder straps of the car seat should come out above his or her shoulders. By following the manufacturer's instructions carefully, you'll be sure that the flight or car ride will be safe. It is good to know that on a an airplane, car seats should always be used next to windows so they don't block other passengers in an emergency. So you'll want to book a window seat ahead of time.
