It feels like once
you are able to see and hold your baby that it will be a lot
easier to take care of them and know that they are okay. It
is helpful to know about some of the common things you may encounter
with your newborn. It is always a good idea to get a book about
a baby's health care and a health care kit. It helps to have
everything you might need for your baby before they are born. |

Diaper
Rash
One time or another
a baby is sure to get diaper rash. Always keep a supply of
diaper cream on hand. Diaper rash may be more common once
your baby is eating solids. |
|
Heat
Rash - Sometimes
a little one will get a
heat rash. If you are unsure if the rash is
something more than a heat rash then consult
your baby's doctor.
Colds
- Sooner or later babies will get a cold.
Nursing them back to health can take a while
and it is a good idea to give your child's doctor
a call.
| Fevers
- Something to watch for is if your baby is feeling bad whether
or not they have a fever. With the way babies regulate their
body temperature, it can be serious if they feel bad and have
a fever. If the temperature is above 100° consult your baby's
doctor immediately and if it is 102° take your baby in. |

Yeast
Infections - Yeast
infections are definitely
rarer than some things that babies can get but if
you think that your baby has one, consult your
baby's doctor. Dian Dincin Buchman's Herbal Medicine: The Natural
Way to Get Well and Stay Well
Cradle
Cap
Your baby's scalp
will begin to peel within the first couple of weeks. Keep
brushing their hair but be careful of their soft spots. As
your baby has his or her routine check ups you can ask the
doctor about it. |

Baby
Acne - Each baby is different so they may
or may not get baby
acne. If you think what
your baby has is hives consult your baby's doctor.
Soft
Spots - When babies
are born they have two
soft spots. One is on the top of the head and the
other is in the back. Careful not to put pressure
on these.
Peeling
Skin - Since the
baby has been in fluid for
many months, after a couple of weeks their skin
may peel around the wrist, ankles and behind the
ears. Lotion will help this process.
Colic
Some babies have
colic. There are theories on colic that include the food in
their digestive system is moving too slow or quick and they
might have a hard time adjusting to this world. They make
homeopathic tablets for colic but they do not work for all
babies. |

Blisters - Newborn
babies suckle a lot.
From time to time they may develop blisters
on their lips. These usually heal within the
next day or two and are bound to come back.
Thrush
You may notice on
your baby's tongue that looks like milk curd. It could be
a extremely common infection called thrush that a lot of babies
get. If it doesn't clear up on its own there is ointment that
you can use. |

Sore
Gums
Babies
will start teething at different times. Some babies have been
known to have been born with a tooth. When a baby is teething
it helps to give them a teething ring. In addition to something
to chew on often teething tablets can help relieve discomfort
that your baby may have from teething. |
