Since you never know if your baby only will wet their diaper or if they will soil it, washcloths or wipes are two items to keep in your diaper bag. If you don't think that you want to have to make sure to have warm water available when you change your baby's diaper from home and you don't have the room to fit a case of wipes you can stick some in a zip lock bag. Items like diaper cream, teething tablets, colic tablets, grooming and health care kit and baby lotion are also items that are great to have when you are out of the home.

Having something to change your baby on is also a practical thing to have in your diaper bag, while changing pads are great even a receiving blanket will work, and it is a good idea to take a couple of receiving blanket when you leave the home anyway. Since you never know what you will realize that you need until you are out of the house with your baby, being over prepared can be a good idea. A plastic bag, if not a couple, are good to have to keeps dirty diapers, a wet bag will work great for this too, and clothes that needed to be changed. Two things that can be good to keep in the diaper bag for mommy are lanolin and the breastfeeding laws in the state that you are in. With each trip that you take you will think more and more about what you want to have and pack it in the diaper bag for the next outing.
